Writing Writing is making a record using objects pictures or letters for others to understand. Make up poems, make lists by cutting pictures out of catalogues, write a menu. Practice the movements needed for writing using big arm movements – up, down, across, over (use brushes and water on the fence or wall). Make patterns in trays of flour or rice. Keep a diary using photos and type captions. If you read what your child has written they will feel so proud. Have a go. We will add ideas here to help you write with your child.

Reading Understanding the meaning of objects, pictures, symbols and written words all count as reading activities; so sing songs, read stories, look at pictures and simple books together. Listen to stories online and use an object, picture, symbol or written word as you do. All of this will help your child to attach the correct meaning to what you are showing them. Make it fun – songs, rhymes and silly stories are fab as well as noticing logos and words in your everyday environment. Do the silly voices, act out the story; your child will love the interaction.
We will put some ideas onto this page to help you

Phonics Phonics is a method of learning to read. Phonics works by breaking each word up into it’s individual sounds before blending those sounds back together to make the word. Phonics teaches children to be able to listen carefully and identify the phonemes that make up each word. This helps children to learn to read words and to spell words
